10 #TipsForWhen – You’re Hungover

10 #TipsForWhen – You’re Hungover

1.) I know this is probably too late but… prevention is better than cure – During the day before your big night out ensure to drink at least 3 litres of water, eat some carbs with your dinner and then take a dioralyte about half an hour before your first drink. This will reduce the chances of being in an absolute heap the next day.

2.) Drink lots of water! I know this is the obvious one but the whole reason you’re hungover is because you’re dehydrated. I usually have a pint glass of water with a NUUN first thing the following morning. They’re full of electrolytes (http://bodyfirst.ie/)

2.) Painkillers – Take aspirin or ibuprofen if you have a headache. Obviously read the instructions and take only the recommended dose.

3.) Drink boiled water with honey & lemon. Honey helps balance your blood sugar levels and lemons replenish the vitamins you need. Avoid coffee! I know you might crave it for an energy boost but it will just dehydrate you more and might end up giving you a pounding headache.

4.) If you’ve managed to re-hydrate then a light run or walk can be an amazing cure! The hardest part is physically walking out the front door, but once you’re out in the fresh air you’ll feel way better.

5.) Go for a swim! If you’re feeling brave, a dip in the see will really wake up up! I ran screaming into the sea on Dollymount Beach on Easter Sunday and although I was a bit shook, I still felt much better after doing that! It’s great for your skin too.

6.) Go back to sleep. I always wake up really early after a big night out which is really annoying (because no one else is awake). I end up trying to be productive and I clean or start watching Kardashian re-runs at 8AM. By the time it gets to 3PM I crash again and the fear sets in, so I’d be better off just trying to get a couple of extra hours of sleep.

7.) Protect your senses – Hangovers cause hypersensitivity to light and noise. This sounds a bit dramatic but if the pain killers haven’t set in yet then I would suggest wearing sun glasses and avoiding any loud noises.

8.) Eat bold food. When I’m on a health buzz I like to be really strict during the week then save a cheat meal for the weekend. When I’m hungover all I want is fooood. My favourite places for some dirty treats are Eddie Rockets (Mmm… Oreo Malt) or Bunsen. 9.) Call a friend. Going Facebook and seeing people checking in at the gym or holding up the medals from the marathon they’ve just completed will not help or self esteem right now. Call one of your partners in crime from the night before and laugh on the phone for hours. If they text you and say ‘Soz bbz can’t answer I’m in the gym xo’ ask for photographical evidence.

10.) Embrace it. The worst thing you can do when you have a hangover is beat yourself up about it. Ok I’m sure you’d feel a bit better physically if you had gone for that run or had 10 hours sleep but focus on the positives – if you had a good night then it’s graaand. Get a blanket and Netflix and distract yourself from the fear.
